Kourabiedes are Greek almond cookies sprinkled right after being cooked with orange blossom. Excellent and delicate cookie for Christmas time or any time of the year in our home. A FAVORITE !


2 cups sifted all- purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup butter
1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract and almond extract
1/2 cup finely chopped almonds
36 whole cloves (Optional)
1/3 cup confectioners’ sugar for decoration
Orange blossom essence


  1. Ground almonds DSC04332

2. Sift flour with baking powder. Set aside.

3.  Cream butter and gradually add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add egg yolk and vanilla. Beat again until very light. Stir in almonds.DSC04335
3       Blend in flour mixture, mix to form a soft, smooth dough. Chill 30 minutes or until it can be handled easily. DSC04338
4       Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (170 degrees C).
5       Shape level tablespoonfuls of dough into round or crescent-shapes. DSC04342Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.

6. Insert whole clove into center of each if you want.

7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until light…do not brown.

8. When it comes out of the oven sprinkle some  Orange blossom on it. DSC04344DSC04347

9. Cool on rack. Dust generously with confectioners’ sugar. DSC04345
